Stamford (Delaware County): It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William C. Hynes, who departed this life on March 30, 2026, at the age of 83.
Bill was born on November 1, 1942, in Albany, NY to William & Rosemary Hynes. He was raised in Albany, NY and spent his adult life in Stamford, NY, where he became known for his kindness, humor & dedication.
Throughout his life, Bill was devoted to his career and family. He worked for the New York State Power Authority for 40 years where he retired in 2016. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, metal detecting, coin collecting, playing chess and listening to the scanner. Bill was also an active member of the Schoharie Kiwanis Club where he enjoyed helping the community and meeting new friends.
Bill is survived by his former wife Judy in Westmere, NY, his daughter, Teresa in Arlington, VA, his son, Jonathan (Jolene) in Westmere, NY, his sister Rosemary Kochem (Gary) in Slingerlands, NY and 4 grandchildren, Katlyn, Chelsea, Nathan and Isabel, and his ‘adopted grandson’ Joshua Eckard who will all forever cherish his memory. Bill was preceded in death by: his parents, his daughter, Marilyn Hynes-Lane, son, Bill, III, and his brother, John.
Those who knew Bill will remember him for his sense of humor, generosity and overall kindness. His presence left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
A period of visitation will be held from 11AM to 1PM on Tuesday, April 7th at the Langan Funeral Home, 327 Main Street Schoharie followed by a prayer service at 1PM with Fr. Tom Zelker officiating. Burial will follow in the Stamford Cemetery.
Bill will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
