John Polito will present a special concert on the Jefferson Historical Society’s newly restored 1918 piano, titled “Rocking the Piano.” The program will feature a selection of oldies music, with an emphasis on ballads from classic rock groups.
In addition to these favorites, John will perform a new original piece and “Jefferson Roads,” inspired by a familiar melody. The concert will also include a guitar sing-along and a patriotic selection performed on trumpet.
John has played piano informally since he was a child. His parents bought him an upright piano for $35. He didn’t begin formal lessons until after retirement.
Trumpet was the first instrument he learned in his youth, later followed by baritone and trombone in high school. Guitar is something he picked up later in life.
John is from the Jefferson Central School Class of 1981. You may have seen his science presentations on Jefferson Heritage Day, his chainsaw carvings, or his paintings/photography at Judd Hall.
This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of The Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by CREATE Council on the Arts.
The event will be at Judd Hall, 163 Main St., Jefferson on Saturday May 9th at 2pm. It is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
