Schoharie Track Falls to Johnstown
JOHNSTOWN — The Johnstown (JT) track and field teams defended their home turf Monday, securing victories for both the boys and girls squads in a dual meet against Schoharie.
Boys: Johnstown 74, Schoharie 57
The Johnstown boys relied on a dominant performance in the field events and distance runs to overcome a strong showing by Schoharie’s sprinters. Johnstown's Wagner (Discus, 112'6") and Rose (Shotput, 39'4") led a surge in throwing events, while Betts secured a victory in the Triple Jump with a leap of 35'4 1/4".
Schoharie’s Florussen was a standout in the jumping events, taking first place in both the Long Jump (19'6") and High Jump (5'8"). On the track, Schoharie’s Kenny won the 100m dash in 11.5 seconds, and Stevens doubled up with wins in the 1600m (5:09) and the 800m (2:21.3). However, Johnstown's depth in the relays and a first-place finish by Scofield in the 200m (24.4) helped the Sir Bills pull away for the 74-57 team win.
Girls: Johnstown 69, Schoharie 43
The Johnstown girls' team utilized a balanced attack to defeat Schoharie 69-43. LaPort was a force for the Sir Bills in the throwing circle, sweeping the Discus (78'4") and Shotput (26'). Jennings also secured nine points for Johnstown with a first-place finish in the High Jump, clearing 4'9".
Johnstown saw additional success on the track from Lorenz, who won the 1600m in 6:12.1, and Yuenger, who claimed the 400m intermediate hurdles in 1:17.5. Vytrisalova added a win in the 800m with a time of 2:43.1.
Schoharie was led by Kenny, who dominated the sprints with wins in both the 400m (1:05.3) and the 200m (28.5). Bri Repscher swept the horizontal jumps for Schoharie, winning the Long Jump (13'7") and the Triple Jump (28'4 1/2"), while Schweigerd took top honors in the Pole Vault.
