Around the Neighborhood - Seward
With April ending, so begins road construction. My husband is back to work and many others. Please pass road work with caution. That is someone's family.
This past Friday, April 24, he did have off, so we went to see a comedian we have liked since I was in college. We went to Rodney Carrington at the DelLagoo. That is up in Waterloo/Seneca Falls area. It was a great show at a cute little casino.
Last Tuesday, April 22, I attended the Republican Caucus at the SewardTown Hall. Chad Evans began the meeting, then was taken over by Duane Tillapaugh. On November 3, 2026 you will have three Republican members to vote for if you wish. For Town Supervisor, Mark Flecher, for Highway Superintendent Chad Evans, and for Town Clerk Brenda Southworth. No one wished to add their names, so there was a need for a vote. At this time the Democratic Party of Seward does not have a Caucus listed.
Over the weekend Dalton picked up our new pond toy! He picked up our new paddle boat. The boys love to kayak, the lab puppy Hardy tries to climb in. Knocking the corgi, Oak, off. So we decided to get something bigger. The boys and two out of the three dogs love it. Tank has not tried it yet.
Dalton started his job today, April 27, at the Cobleskill Rural Cemetery. He will be working this summer with his cousin and Great Uncle John. He loves to work outside. So if you see him there tell him hi!
Small business Spotlight: Nate Davis. He has owned Kaywoodie, a tobacco pipe manufacturer since 1851. This year I am celebrating 175 years of history. In 2019 I opened an online retail shop to sell them, but two years ago I took over the whole company and moved it to Cobleskill, but it has always been in New York State. While most sales are handled by other retailers now, anyone local can reach out at benchmadetradition@gmail.com and peruse benchmadetradition.com for an idea of what I make. Thousands of pipes a year are made by me right here in Cobleskill and go out all over the world. See a feature about him in this week’s edition.
Our Seward Town Park has had a facelift! Stop in to see it! Mark Christman, Councilman Bill Harlow, Councilwoman Maryann Nelson and her husband Mike Nelson, have done a great job! Staining the picnic table, updating the flag pole, and fixing hazardous areas. Thank you for your time.
This weekend begins our vendor event season. Stop in to the CRCS High School on Saturday May 2, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Touch a tractor, vendors, chicken BBQ, petty zoo and more! Piggy Pop and Pig Out will be there!
I just want to say thank you for stopping in to read my column each week. I love the feedback I have been getting from readers. I had a teacher from high school tell me a few years ago she dyed my writing in school. She thought I would do something with it. Diana Spanello here you go, thank you for remembering me♡
You may be getting a mailer from CRCS, you will see a write up about me. I have handed in my papers, and I am running for School Board. I want to help our community in any way I can. The vote is on May 19, 2026
May your May start out beautiful and bright!
