ROSEBOOM – Two people, both in their 70s, were declared dead after a neighbor found them both unresponsive outside of their home in the Town of Roseboom on February 1.
At approximately 4:47pm on a bitterly cold day on February 1, Otsego County Deputy Sheriffs and New York State Police were dispatched by Otsego County 911 to a residence in the Town of Roseboom. Law enforcement was sent to the scene after Otsego County 911 received a report that two individuals were discovered unresponsive by a neighbor.
Upon arrival, officers located the unresponsive individuals outside of the residence. They were both declared dead, according to police.
The deceased were determined to be a 70-year-old female and a 77-year-old male, both residents of the Town of Roseboom.
An immediate investigation was launched by the law enforcement agencies, who were assisted by Otsego County Coroner Michael Fox.
According to police, at this stage of the investigation, there is no evidence of criminality, and initial findings indicate the deaths were not the result of a criminal act. It is not known whether the two perished because of the cold weather.
The investigation remains ongoing. This is an active and open case with the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office.
