COBLESKILL — Supervisor Werner Hampel of the Town of Cobleskill and Mayor R.J. Freitag of the Village of Cobleskill have announced a coordinated effort to expand youth programming and strengthen summer recreation opportunities for the 2026 season. Officials from both municipalities are working together to finalize schedules, secure instructors, and broaden the range of activities available to residents of all ages.

The partnership reflects a renewed commitment to shared services and community engagement, ensuring that families throughout the Cobleskill area have access to safe, affordable, and well‑organized recreational programs

New Youth Initiative Launches at Teen Town

A major highlight of this year’s efforts is the launch of Wheels for Our Community, an energetic new youth initiative designed to bring more activity and family‑friendly fun to Teen Town. The Town and Village are partnering with Wheels for Our Community to offer a monthly series featuring biking, skating, picnics, creative projects, and other engaging activities for children and teens.

The program aims to provide a lively, supervised environment where young people can stay active, build friendships, and enjoy positive experiences that strengthen community connections.

Program lead Harry Rodes Jr. said his goal is to create meaningful moments for kids and families—moments that inspire joy, togetherness, and a deeper sense of community pride.

Final approval for the recurring events is underway as staff review scheduling, building access, and logistical needs. More details will be released once arrangements are complete.

Supervisor Hampel and Mayor Freitag emphasized their shared belief in investing in local youth. They noted that programs like this give young people a safe place to be active, social, and connected to their community—strengthening Cobleskill and supporting the families who call it home.

Expanded Summer Recreation Programs

In addition to the new youth initiative, the Town and Village are preparing a full slate of summer recreation programs for 2026. Returning favorites and new offerings are being organized across a variety of activities, including tennis, soccer, volleyball, basketball, skateboarding, and pickleball. Plans are also being developed for instructional and safety‑focused sessions.

The Village pool is scheduled to open shortly after the school year ends. Preparations for the Arts & Crafts Morning Program are underway, with materials already being ordered.

Officials say the unified approach allows both municipalities to expand access to recreation while maximizing resources and strengthening community ties.

Registration information, program dates, and volunteer opportunities will be announced in the coming weeks. Residents are encouraged to follow updates from both the Town and Village as planning continues.

Community Clean‑Up Day

Teen Town’s annual Clean‑Up Day is scheduled for May 16 from 9 a.m. to noon. Community members are invited to assist with maintenance, repairs, and park clean‑up efforts. Those interested in volunteering should contact either the Village or Town office. A strong community turnout is encouraged.
