STAMFORD – District Attorney Shawn J. Smith announced today that Kevin R. Gilligan, 40, of Middleburgh, pleaded guilty in the Town of Stamford Court on March 9, 2026, to one count of Driving While Intoxicated, an Unclassified Misdemeanor. The defendant will be sentenced to 90 days in jail, to be followed by a one-year conditional discharge. As part of his sentence, he will have to attend a Victim Impact Panel, an Impaired Driving Program and an alcohol /drug evaluation with any recommended treatment. His license will be revoked and if he does obtain a license again, he will have to install an ignition interlock on any vehicle he owns or drives.
On December 23, 2025, New York State Troopers Anthony Valente and Grace Taylor were dispatched to a one car motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Town Brook Road and Davis Road in the Town of Stamford with no one on scene. After a brief investigation, the troopers conducted a traffic stop of another vehicle that had the missing driver of the MVA in the back seat. Upon an interview with this individual, identified as Kevin Gilligan, Trooper Valente detected an odor of alcohol emanating from him. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were initiated, and it was determined that Gilligan was intoxicated. A preliminary breath test also revealed a positive result for alcohol.
District Attorney Smith commended the work of NYS Troopers Valente and Taylor on this case. “Thanks to the diligent work of these troopers, another intoxicated driver was held accountable.”
