STAMFORD — In the Ukrainian Egg Painting workshop at Headwaters Arts Center in Stamford, teaching artist Joanne Lentner will show participants how to use wax, dye, and vinegar to create beautiful designs for decorative eggs. Meeting Saturday, March 7, 2026, 11a–2p, this workshop is offered with tiered equity pricing at $25 | $40 | $50.
Pysanky is a colorful Ukrainian folk art which involves using wax resist and multiple dye baths to create a colorful design. While it is similar to the American tradition of dyeing Easter eggs, it is known as “writing” (pysanky) because the technique traditionally incorporates a vocabulary of meaningful symbols.

Joanne Lentner is a local artist residing in Oneonta. In addition to writing pysanky, she works in a variety of media, including watercolor, oil, pastel, colored pencil, basketweaving, glass beadmaking, micro mosaic, porcelain dollmaking, and handcrafting holiday ornaments. You may have seen her designs at the annual Chili Bowl fundraiser for CANO in Oneonta, as she has painted nearly 200 bowls for that event over the past ten years. Joanne learned the traditional art of writing pysanky several years ago, and has branched out to create a wide variety of her own images and designs using non-traditional colors.
