PRATTSVILLE – Happy Valentine’s Day again. Enjoy.
Do hope your favorite team won the Super Bowl.
It is always an enjoyment to watch the Olympics and cheer for the USA. To get to the Olympics and regardless of whether it is Gold or less that is won, just to get there you are a winner. Congratulations to all Olympians.
Congratulations to Super Bowl winners – the Seattle Sea Hawks. Gerry Hubbard, GCCS Class of 1956, who lives in Portland, OR, was probably cheering for and celebrating their win. Perhaps the Sea Hawks showed the Bills how to do it.
As a follow up to the annual ice event at Hanford Mills mentioned in last week’s column, an attendee said the ice was fifteen inches thick this year but they can remember when the ice cutting event had to be canceled because there was just no ice. Always a guessing game when it comes to the Great Northeast’s weather.
Yes, we have been in the deep freeze for more than a week, with accompanying snow, but Connie and Donnie Lane said it was not as bad as their wedding day, February 8, 1958. That was the winter of the blizzard when snow plows had to be dug out on Route 23 on the east side of Stamford. Connie and Donnie send thanks for the good wishes on their 68th anniversary. Connie said, “It may be a cold one this year but at least it’s not blizzard conditions as it was that time. Many guests had to turn around and go home. But many hardy souls helped us to celebrate our wedding and the blizzard of ‘58.” So the Lanes have two reasons to celebrate each February 8. There is always some sort of silver lining when you are old enough to remember when things were worse.

The American Legion Auxiliary Virgil E. Deyo Unit 1327 members, Cathy Martino, Marianne Krauss and Ginny Gurley, attended the annual Greene County American Legion Auxiliary meeting in Greenville on February 7 for the selection of the candidates for Empire Girls State. The selected candidates to represent our area at this event in June/July 2026 are Linsey Bellinger of Hunter and Arjo Steen of Catskill. Young ladies representing Greene County at Empire Girls State from Unit 1327 in past years have been Abby Tompkins, Ava Gockel, Anna Tompkins and Caitlyn Cross. And they have done us proud and we thank them for this. Good luck for your future endeavors.
Feel better wishes go out to Tracy Stryker of Creekside fame in Grand Gorge. Things are on the healthy side with her and wish they remain so. Creekside is open for business as usual. To all those suffering with the latest virus or some other ailment, best wishes for a speedy recovery. Stay well.
Peggy Robinson and Cathy Martino were dinner guests of Doreen Maurer at her home.
