PRATTSVILLE – Wishing all a warm and enjoyable Spring. We deserve some mild and sunny weather. April 22 is Earth Day. Do whatever you can to preserve our environment for a healthy future for our family generations. Along with spring are the cleanup events. The Town of Prattsville will be sponsoring their annual Spring Cleanup Day, Monday, May 4. There are guidelines for types of items to be set out to be picked up so it is best to call the Prattsville Town Hall at 518 299 3125 for exact information. Also NBT Bank in Grand Gorge is holding a paper shredding day on Wednesday, May 6, 11 AM – 3 PM. Get rid of those papers you do not feel comfortable with throwing them in the general garbage. No Business paperwork please. At the same time and place there will be a non-perishable food (canned goods) item donation collection for those in need in our communities. These events will help you get rid of unwanted items and clear out your home for extra “stuff” you can buy at the yard sales and craft fairs and help those in need with the food donations.
Welcome home to our Kings – Jim and Roxie that is. It will be enjoyable comparing vegetable gardening events and cures for pests and weeds and recipes for using up the garden goodness with them. They look good from their stay in warmer climates for the winter months. They always have something exciting and interesting to share. Again Roxie and Jim, welcome home.
Continuing the spirit of Easter and appreciation for the Young family for use of their facilities for the Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Unit 1327 member Marianne Krauss baked up a batch of chocolate cupcakes for the Young family and associates at Youngs Ace Hardware. Marianne delivered the cupcakes much to the appreciation and gratitude of all the aforementioned. One said he was only able to eat one but that one cupcake satisfied his sweet tooth. The same person said he would be bowling in a tournament in Canandaigua this weekend, the 18th and 19th. He belongs to a league in Middleburgh and says they has been bowling in tournaments for years. Wish him the best of luck and maybe the next time we see him at Youngs, he will be bragging of all the strikes he delivered. He didn’t divulge his bowling average. Happy Days.
A friend, who will remain anonymous at her request, said that Sunday morning in Huntersfield they had a hard frost, as in freeze, to greet the family. She said their tulips were flat on the ground. Not a good way to greet a spring morning. Not to be deterred, a Tom turkey was seen on Route 23A in full display for the turkey hens, not in sight, on a warm Saturday afternoon. We just have to be patient? The forsythia is in full blossom in some of the warmer spots in our area. Of course, on Route 28 they are in full glory. It is worth a trip to that area just to view those bushes. We can take heart that the weather is ameliorating as the Reynold boys of Main Street East (on the Perry & Ginny Chatfield homestead) have excavated their annual earth pit in the area that will become to the family vegetable garden. Believe the boys would be Perry and Ginny’s great-grandsons. Grandfather Ed Chatfield, is that the right number of “greats”?
Just to make you yearn for nicer spring weather, read the following:
From our Oregon girls, Judy Chatfield and Janet Chatfield Syska. They report they enjoyed a delicious Easter dinner with Janet's son, Mark and family. Judy just got her knee injections recently and her knees already feel better. As we age, our knees seem to be aging faster than the rest of our bodies. Judy and Janet say they are having beautiful weather on the West Coast. Judy is getting anxious for Janet's veggie gardens to be planted. From Janet and Judy: “Hope you folks back home start getting better weather.” As members of our American Legion Auxiliary, they continue to support their local veterans’ facilities by donating clothing and household items to those veterans in need. On behalf of our veterans everywhere, thank you Judy and Janet. You are making some of our veterans’ lives somewhat better and know they are not forgotten.
It was an elegant bridal shower for Faith, the future bride of Brandon Brainerd on Saturday, the 11. Family members and friends gathered to make this day one of happiness and with many memories being made to be enjoyed at future gatherings. So nice to see the younger generation setting a high standard for behavior and attire. Congratulations, and thank you.
