PRATTSVILLE – Slow news week. Everyone doing some lawn work on the sunny pleasant days. It seems like we always have some breezes or downright wind gusts. Wednesday evening we were presented with a lighting and thunder that shook the windows. The one bolt of lighting was like a sonic boom over the east side of town. We are all still here to talk about it and Sunday’s gift of wet snow. The more pleasant side of Mother Nature was Tuesday evening around eight o’clock. The colors in the sky were brilliant – golds to pinks to oranges and reds to purples to absolutely awesome. Hope many of you got to enjoy the colorful display.
We wish the very best of health to Ronnie Cline and Randy Brainerd. Both made trips to hospitals and wish them both complete recovery. We also send wishes for good health to Claudia Bracaliello.
We send condolences to the Al Creazzo family on the recent passing of his brother. Al and Anita need some good wishes for all their family’s good health.
Remember the Prattsville Firemen’s Pork Dinner coming up on Saturday, May 2, 4:30 to 7 PM, at their firehouse on Firehouse Lane. Dates to remember: May 4, Monday, annual Prattsville Pick-up day for large cumbersome items for residents of Prattsville. Please call the Prattsville Town Hall at 518-299-3125 for guidelines and other information. Also on Wednesday, May 6, 11 AM to 3 PM, the NBT Bank, Grand Gorge, is sponsoring a shredding day of your more personal paperwork. They ask that you do not bring business papers to be shredded. Remember to bring some non-perishable food items for the Pantry for the Needed. This is a win-win event.
Got a call from Joyce DeVivo who was informed by a friend that the Schoharie Creek at the Barrier Dam, on both the upper and lower sides, was being inundated with suckers and/or carp. Does anyone know of this and why there would be such a large number of the aforesaid? Supposedly(?) the fish were so plentiful they were actually in layers. Joyce went there with her camera but by then the plethora of them had dissipated.
The American Legion Auxiliary Virgil E. Deyo Unit 1327 had their monthly meeting of Tuesday, the 14. Plans were made for the Poppy Distribution in May, along with Memorial Day observances and Awards for the Class of 2026. It was mentioned that perhaps there could be a suggestion of less playground noise during the Memorial Services for our deceased veterans. Sometimes the language coming from the playground, in addition to be loud, is offensive to all attendees: veterans, active military, religious leaders, young, old, etc. Let’s respect the day and what it means – the cost of our freedom. Thank you.
The most recent cold snap sent some residents into rescue mode Sunday and Monday nights, covering their fruit trees to protect them suspected frosts.
Cathy Martino, Marianne Krauss and Ginny Gurley attended 3rd District ALA Conference in Greenville on Saturday, the 18th. The weather was gorgeous so they enjoyed a day out for information, friendship and to learn ways to support our veterans and active military.
Please be careful out there with the strong presence of ticks. One resident has already been bitten by a tick carrying Lime Disease and is under doctor’s care. The warnings have gone out that this could be a very bad season for ticks carrying all sorts of diseases. Take care.
