Fleischmanns is heading into the spring season with real momentum, as a growing lineup of events, new business openings, and increased foot traffic begin to reshape the pace of life in the village. The shift is already visible, with more activity taking hold across Main Street as the season gets underway.
The Fleischmanns Village Board held a meeting on Tuesday, April 14 at the Skene Memorial Library, where the status of the village swimming pool was discussed. Due to deterioration of the pool’s surface, approximately $30,000 in repairs will be needed in order to reopen for the summer season. The Board is currently exploring grant opportunities to help fund the work.
Community programming continues to expand this spring. SAN MUL will host a kimchi-making workshop on Sunday, May 3 at 12 p.m., where attendees will learn how to prepare dandelion and ramp kimchi. Tickets and additional information are available at eastbranchfarms.com.
The Print House will be closed from April 20 through April 30 for a short spring break following the busy winter season, and will reopen on May 1 with a new spring menu.
Tinderbox will also be closed for spring break through May 30.
Shadowcrest Guest House, one of this year’s New York Main Street Grant recipients, is preparing for renovations this summer, with a focus on preserving the historic character of the Victorian guesthouse on Main Street.
At Doolittle’s, the spring book fair will kick off on Sunday, April 19 and run through Saturday, April 25, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Skene Memorial Library. The week will include a children’s story hour on Saturday, April 25 at 4 p.m., with the community invited to attend.
On the arts calendar, 1053 Gallery will present Three Mystics by Tessa Hughes-Freeland, a video installation featuring three separate films. An opening reception will take place on Saturday, April 18 from 3 to 6 p.m., with the exhibition on view through April 26.
Looking ahead, the annual Earth Day Village Cleanup will take place on Sunday, May 3 beginning at 10 a.m., followed by a community barbecue at noon at the village park, hosted by the Mayor and Board of Trustees, with food provided by the village.
Volunteers are also being sought by Fleischmanns First for the upcoming Memorial Day Street Fair.
Villagers may have noticed a familiar sight returning to Main Street, as Harold’s Cold Comfort Ice Cream truck has reappeared in front of Doolittle’s for the season. The truck is expected to begin scooping next weekend, marking the return of a summer favorite in the village.
Fleischmanns is quickly establishing itself as one of the places to be in the Catskills this spring, with a steady stream of activity bringing renewed energy to Main Street. What was once a quieter shoulder season is now becoming a time of continued momentum, as new businesses, events, and community programming create a rhythm that is drawing both locals and visitors back to the village week after week.
