FLEISCHMANNS — You know it’s springtime in Fleischmanns when the first black bears are spotted waddling down Main Street. The village has also been busy with visitors enjoying the final stretch of a strong ski season at Belleayre Mountain, keeping things lively as the snow melts.
Last Thursday, the Comprehensive Plan Committee for Fleischmanns, Margaretville, and Town of Middletown held a public meeting at Union Grove Distillery in Arkville. Several Fleischmanns residents attended to share their priorities and long-term goals, helping to shape a broader vision for the future of the region.
Preparations for the Fleischmanns Memorial Day Street Fair continue to build, with more than 60 vendors now confirmed, including Phoenicia Diner and Oyster Party. With participation continuing to grow, this year’s event is shaping up to be the largest yet, building on the expanded format introduced last year.
At the same time, efforts tied to the recently awarded New York Main Street Grant continue to move forward, with grant recipients expected to meet in the coming weeks to discuss next steps and how improvement projects will continue on Main Street.
Wax & Wild, the new flower shop which will also offer vintage records and gifts, will hold a soft opening on April 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Easter Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The shop is the first of new businesses set to open this spring in the former bank building located at 1084 Main Street.
Doolittle’s will celebrate its two-year anniversary this Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m., inviting villagers to stop by for the celebration, with food provided by San Mul. The shop will also host photos with the Easter Bunny on Sunday, April 5, from 1 to 5 p.m.
The village’s arts and music calendar continues to expand. 1053 Gallery has announced it will host a Spring Mixer on April 11 from 7 to 11 p.m., featuring video projections by Alan Powell and live music by Michael Suchorsky and his band.
That energy continues across the street at The Print House, where local singer-songwriter Joe Colwell will perform on Saturday, April 4, as part of their ongoing lineup of live music.
A Village Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 13 at 6 p.m. at the Skene Library.
Looking ahead, residents are encouraged to take part in the annual Earth Day Village Cleanup on Sunday, May 3, beginning at 10 a.m. The Mountain Athletic Club (MAC) will lead cleanup efforts along their section of Route 28, while Fleischmanns First will coordinate volunteers throughout the village. Participants can gather at the eastern entrance or the gazebo for supplies and instructions. All groups will reconvene at noon at the Fleischmanns Park to drop off collected debris and enjoy a community barbecue hosted by Mayor Sam Gil, continuing a long-standing tradition.
As spring takes hold, Fleischmanns continues to build momentum, with renewed energy and a full calendar of events pointing toward a strong season ahead.
