Spring has arrived in Fleischmanns, and with it comes a busy season across the village, with new projects, events, and familiar traditions all taking shape.
The village election was held last week, with Aaron Goldring and Yesmin Sarabia re-elected to their trustee seats.
The community also said goodbye to Roy Todd, a lifelong resident and a familiar face to many. Known for his kindness and deep roots in the village, he will be greatly missed.
Planning is well underway for the Fleischmanns Memorial Day Street Fair, set for Sunday, May 24. The event is planned by Fleischmanns First. After last year’s refreshed event, which welcomed more than 40 new vendors from around the Catskills, Hudson Valley, and New York State, organizers are continuing to build on that momentum as the fair grows each year. Anyone interested in participating as a vendor can contact janine@marketparty.org for more information.
Along Main Street, renovation work continues to reshape key properties. The former bank building, owned by Mark and Maritza Birman, is nearing completion and will soon house new businesses, including Wax & Wild, a flower shop and retail store, and Formerly, a vintage clothing and lifestyle boutique. Together, they will add to the growing mix of shops in the heart of the village.
Looking ahead, plans are also in the works for the Timber Lodge, a proposed 25-room motel to be built next to the former Goatie White’s, adding to local lodging options for visitors.
San Mul, operated by East Branch Farms/Kimchee Harvest, continues to host a weekly mutual aid kitchen on Tuesdays from 2 to 6 p.m., offering sliding-scale meals to the community.
The Print House hosted another successful edition of The Frog on Tuesday, March 24, with a strong turnout of storytellers and continued community support. The next gathering is planned for May 5.
The arts continue to be an important part of village life. The 1053 Gallery is preparing for an exciting upcoming season, with a lineup of well-known and returning artists expected to draw visitors from across the region.
Doolittle’s will celebrate its two-year anniversary on Saturday, April 4, with a party from 6 to 9 p.m. Patrons and villagers are welcome to stop by for drinks and bites to celebrate.
As the season gets underway, there is a clear sense of forward movement in Fleischmanns, with new ideas, ongoing projects, and community events all contributing to the village’s continued growth.
