ANDES — The town of Andes is preparing for a busy April filled with community service, artistic workshops, and local entertainment as the region shakes off the final traces of winter.

Community Service and Civic Deadlines

Volunteers are being called to action for the annual Andes Litter Pickup. Organizers will meet at 9 a.m. at the former Andes General Store on Wednesday, April 22, and Saturday, April 26. Participants are encouraged to wear bright clothing and sturdy footwear. The Andes Dragonfly Diner is supporting the effort by offering volunteers a free breakfast or lunch.

Key deadlines this month include 2026 hauling bids, which are due between noon and 1 p.m. on April 3, and April water bills, due by the end of the day on April 30. The Zoning Board is also scheduled to meet on Monday, April 20, at 6 p.m.

Arts and Education

The Andes Public Library will host a unique workshop titled "Hands, A Window Into The Heart" on Saturday, April 11, at 3:30 p.m. Led by JoAnna Mendl Shaw, director of the Equus Projects, the session explores how hand movements reflect inner thoughts and emotions.

The library also continues its weekly social games, with Mah Jongg Mondays at 2:30 p.m. and Rummikub Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m.

Art enthusiasts can visit the Hawk + Hive Spring Salon at 61 Main St., which will be open every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the month.

Dining and Entertainment

The Andes Hotel remains a hub for social activity, featuring karaoke with DJ Tito every other Friday night starting at 9 p.m. on April 3 and April 17. The hotel will also host the Andes Garden Club on April 7 at 5 p.m.

Live music fans can catch the S.R.O. (Standing Room Only) Band performing at Dana’s Place on Saturday, April 18, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

For those looking for a mid-week meal, the Dragonfly Diner is offering "Early Bird Suppers" Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The $14.95 specials include:

Mondays: Meatloaf with mashed potatoes

Wednesdays: Hot open turkey with stuffing

Thursdays: Chicken and cheese quesadillas
