ROXBURY — In the depths of night, in the small village of Roxbury, New York, the sound of a Goth Wizardess, of superior spirit resides. There… from WIOX Radio, Chelsea Goodwin creates, In Goth We Trust. An Author and Radio Host, and an activist for the freedom to just Be. Music chimes with a dark thrill, raising goosebumps on our skin. A cabinet in the basement of our mind opens, revealing something different, and then, perhaps, a change in ones thoughts. The madness may be scary at first, but then it becomes soothing; pushing out the decay of artificial light and bringing in-the Sun’s warmth and comfort.

Chelsea's Goth segment on WIOX may be challenging to some, those not prepared for the abruptness of the bright light, but in that village, a safe place resides to plant roots. The branches reach out to diverse types of Flora and Fauna, showing how we all can thrive in the same space, with safety and love.

Chelsea’s lowered gaze belies her amazing place in our history.

Chelsea, along with Dr. Rusty Mae Moore, became Generals on an extraordinary pathway. While discovering themselves, along the way they created a haven for those in need. Desiring to be close to family, Chelsea Goodwin and Rusty purchased a home in Park Slope on the 80’s. They couldn’t have known what would come to their complicated lives. Their understanding of the world and compassion for other sentient beings shone a bright halo, a beacon, around the home; friends became Kin, increasing the number of family members.

Transy House was born from this gathering light. Like Harriet Tubman's underground railroad, they provided a link to Life, a link to living as themselves with no fear. Trans individuals, gay, queer, whichever vernacular is required; our tribe was always here.

They have been a part of every culture throughout the world; it is only unseeing eyes, and lack of empathy that hides what is before them.

Indigenous tribes across our tiny, blue marble saw gay and trans people as the Shamans, the Medicine People. They were the “Wise Ones”; they witnessed both sides of life, balancing hearts and minds. This required immense courage and heart. Without all of “Us”, society doesn’t move forward. Progression requires critical thinking.

Chelsea and Rusty both worked with with Queer Nation, Art Up, and other reformative groups striving for “Normal Rights”. Trans liberation; we all deserve a place to set roots down on this insignificant miracle, called Gaia, where a shadowed, deep place begs for imagination and wonder to thrive.
