MIDDLEBURGH - On a bitterly cold evening, it was a battle of the soups at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on Main Street in Middleburgh.

At least 10 soups battled for the top prizes at the weekly Neighbors Eating Together dinner at the church. 

Three churches, Our Lady of the Valley, the Lutheran Church, and the Reformed Church, also battled for the Golden Spoon for top soup.

The winners were:

* 1st prize went to Lee Hillicoss for his beef stew.

* 2nd prize went to Karen VanDyke for her Pasta E Fagioli.

* Third prize went to Diane France for her chicken noodle soup.

The "Golden Spoon" award for the best church soup went to "Our Lady of the Valley" for their Broccoli Cheddar Cheese soup made by Jackie Guntert.

Marie Whittaker made the presentations.

This month, a chili cook-off.
