April 24th was Senior Night for Varsity Softball. Hunter-Tannersville (coached by Amanda Young and Charina Falke) visited the Cherry Valley-Springfield grounds to play Sharon Springs (coached by Dave Bliss and Brittany Pitonza). Sharon Springs Principal/Superintendent Tom Yorke thanked everyone at Cherry Valley-Sprinfield for the collaboration and announced recognition of these senior softball players, “Who embody everything we hope athletics can teach. They are fiercely competitive, always giving their absolute best, yet they never lose sight of what truly matters. They play the game with joy, humility, and a sense of humor that keeps everything in perspective. While they will be deeply missed as they move on to the next chapter, their impact here will not fade. The example they have set, their positivity, kindness, and leadership, will remain a lasting and meaningful part of this program.” In this photo, Sharon Springs catcher (#11), Emily Fox, is springing into action while Hunter-Tannersville (#23), Paige Rinaldi, was at bat. Sharon Springs won the match, 17-2.
Sharon Springs Senior Ava Jump (#5), was accompanied by her parents, Todd and Stacy Jump. She has been on the softball team for four years and was recognized by Coach Bliss as the most fundamentally sound defensive player their team has had all four of those years while being outstanding at second base. She scored three runs in this game. Coach Bliss added that Jump will be attending Johnson & Wales University for baking and pastry arts.
Sharon Springs senior Peyton Barbic (#6) was accompanied by her parents Sonia and Billy Barbic. She has been on the softball team for three years and was recognized by Coach Bliss for always being one of their team’s best hitters. She scored one run in this game. Coach Bliss added that Barbic is an excellent student who will already have three semesters of college credit by the end of her senior year, and will have her associates degree by next December.
