River Williams, a tenth grader at Margaretville Central School, competed at the 2026 NYSPHSAA Ski Championships held Feb. 23-24 at the Bristol Mountain Ski Resort in Canandaigua, New York.

Williams earned her spot at the championship meet by competing with the Margaretville Central School ski team in the Section IV Championships on February 10 at Belleayre Mountain. Racing against athletes from across the section, MCS skiers represented the school well on a challenging course.

Four athletes competed at Sectionals: River Williams, Gabriella Sines, Jasper Nelson, and Calla Norwick. Their performances reflect the work they have put in throughout the season.

Tenth grader River Williams qualified for the Section IV Team that competed at the State Championships. Tenth grader Gabriella Sines was named First Alternate for the Section IV Team. Seventh grader Jasper Nelson was selected as an alternate for the Boys Section IV Team. Calla Norwick, in her first season, gained valuable racing experience at a highly competitive event.

In his first year with the MCS ski program, Coach Josh Byer demonstrated outstanding leadership and an unwavering commitment to the team’s success. The team was also supported by student managers Stella Sines, Evie Marks, and Luca Epstein.
