SHARON SPRINGS – Few events in American history capture the spirit of a generation quite like the Woodstock Music and Art Fair of 1969. The Sharon Historical Society invites the public to experience this landmark moment through its upcoming program, “Stories of Woodstock 1969 from Musicians and People Who Were There,” presented online via Zoom on Monday, April 27 at 7 PM (NY Time).

This engaging program brings the legendary festival to life through firsthand accounts from performers, attendees, and others who experienced the historic weekend. Through their memories, audiences will hear what it was truly like to be there—from the unforgettable music and overwhelming crowds to the unexpected challenges and powerful moments of unity that defined the event.

“Woodstock wasn’t just a concert—it felt like the whole world paused for a few days,” recalled one attendee. “There was mud everywhere, people everywhere, but somehow it all worked. You felt like you were part of something bigger than yourself.”

Musicians, too, reflected on the experience. “Playing Woodstock wasn’t like any other performance,” one performer remembered. “You could feel the energy rolling across the crowd—it was electric, raw, and completely unforgettable.”

These personal reflections offer a vivid and human perspective on how Woodstock became a lasting symbol of peace, creativity, and cultural change.

The program will be presented by historian Ron Ketelsen, whose engaging storytelling style brings history to life through narrative and firsthand voices.

The Sharon Historical Society’s Lecture Series continues its tradition of twice-monthly programs, typically held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays at 7 PM. All programs are offered via Zoom, with select programs also available in person.

This program is free for members as part of their membership benefits. Non-members are encouraged to make a donation to support the lecture series and may choose to join the Society during registration.
