SEWARD — On April 9, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. the Town of Seward had an emergency meeting to address Patrick Road, especially the area affecting John and Connie Seresky's ability to get home.
The Seresky family bought the land on Patrick Road in 1986. They built their family home in 1987. The C.O. was approved in 1988. Since then, they have called it home. They raised their family there, and their one son decided to move down the road and raise his family.
The Seresky family is looking at unsafe road conditions by their home. Mr. Seresky stated for over 30 years he has delt with the road conditions. He feels like once he makes his issues known to the road he has to start all over again with a new Highway Superintendent, or Town Supervisor, and or both. West Creek is washing away parts of Patrick Road.
Two and a half weeks ago the mud slide on Patrick Road, down by the Seresky barn was quite substantial. The two inches of rainfall we received did not help the situation. They reached out to the town again, this time to Chad Evans, Highway Superintendent and Mark Fletcher, Town Supervisor. Mr. Evans now rides down this road two to three times a day to monitor the situation. The Seresky family watches the bank as well.
Mr. Evans called to get the help from GSI. They sent out engineer John Foltz. He built an estimate for what he thought would fix and or help this road. The estimate came up to $297,090.72. Foltz sent engineered drawings to Mr. Evans to share with the board tonight. Foltz offered to be available for the meeting to speak on the phone as well.
The board agreed to have Mr. Evans call Foltz. Foltz was on speaker for all to hear, and answer questions. He is a Project Development Engineer for New York. He stated we need to protect our assets. He offered ideas on how to look for money to help pay for this through grants, DEC and more. Foltz has worked for GSI for just over a year. GSI has been in business for 30 years. This work comes with a 5 year guarantee. Foltz was very informative and explained the process he would use and the materials.
Patrick Road is a dead road in our community. If the work did take place with GSI it would take 8-10 days. The Town Board listened to concerns, answered questions, and brainstormed ways to fix this situation. The Board decided to have Mr. Evans compile more information on this bid. Councilwoman Wendy Rosa suggested Mr. Evans talk with the State Engineer and have them look over the plans sent from GSI. See if they have any suggestions. Chris Tague's office is also looking into this issue. Elise Steefanik's office is assisting as well. This issue can not be fixed overnight. Once more information is obtained, there will be another emergency meeting, unless it fits with the regular town meeting. You can go on the county website to see if there are meetings and or emergency meetings for your town. This meeting was recorded and should be uploaded to the county page. Thank you all for listening to the Seresky family.
