SCHOHARIE - On Wednesday afternoon, members of the Schoharie Central High School Student Government dedicated a Peace Pole in the lawn outside of the Main Office.

In the words of Student Government President Maddy Bruno, "There are now over 200,000 peace poles in the world, and we are incredibly excited to have one here at SCS. The world is full of turmoil, and we in the Student Government feel that we need messages of peace now more than ever, which is why we decided to plant this Peace Pole. Let us hope that it serves as a reminder to our community and to the world that 'May Peace Prevail on Earth.'"

The Schoharie HS Student Government worked throughout the 2025-26 school year with The Peace Pole Project https://www.peacepoleproject.org/ to customize their Peace Pole and bring it to SCS. The Peace Pole is now registered, and a visitor can scan a QR code from the front of the pole to view others throughout the region, state, nation, and world.

Members of Student Government hope to plant flowers and maintain the area around the pole so that this is always a beautiful, peaceful area for everyone.

"Keep thinking peace," club advisor Ed Rivers said.
