SCHOHARIE - Momentum is growing for a entertaining time at a community fest being planned by Schoharie school officials for the end of the school year.

School officials are planning a community event that would bring together parents, students, and many agencies in and around the school. The event is being planned for June 24.

Superintendent David Blanchard told school board members at their Tuesday meeting that progress is being made on more attractions at the event and there is a lot of community support.

Among the attractions will be a performance by a band that includes former SCS high school Principal Kevin Calacone. Other performers have agreed to come to the event.

"This will turn out to be a really nice event," Superintendent Blanchard said. "There will be more to come."

A dinner was held last month with members of several community groups and SCS staff. At the dinner, members brainstormed and plans were discussed for a spring community event.

The event would start with a barbecue, Superintendent Blanchard said. The event, held on school grounds and in the cafeteria and auditorium, would also include: a pickleball tournament, a read-a-long in the library, and more.

Additional meetings will be held to finalize the event. The Schoharie Promotional Association, Workforce Solutions, the county health department, the EPTSO, the SCS Booster Club, the Rec Club, student groups and clubs, the fine arts organizations, and other groups will have tables and information at the event. Officials are working hard at getting other organizations to join.

The main focus of the event is to expand the connection with the community, Mr. Blanchard said.

Many people have gotten excited very quickly and the event should be well attended with students and parents, Superintendent Blanchard added.
