SCHOHARIE COUNTY – Founded in 2011, the Schoharie County Home of Ongoing Learning (SCHOOL) is a non-profit organization whose members share a love of learning.  Through classes and experiences on hundreds of topics, members engage in creativity, exercise and socialization to nurture their whole being – mind, body, and soul.

SCHOOL has a volunteer Board of Directors consisting of 12 individuals and utilizes scores of volunteer instructors and program ambassadors. Most semesters offer approximately 150 classes and programs in locations throughout Schoharie County and beyond. Many are held in local libraries, church halls, gyms, parks, SUNY Cobleskill classrooms and on-line.  Some programs take members outside of the county on hikes, museum visits and performances at Proctors and other venues.

Programs range from cooking and nutrition to gardening, science, health and safety, technology, arts and crafts, history, travelogues, cultural and educational. Have you ever met a police dog in person, pet a newborn calf, toured a historical cemetery, or learned to cook a Puerto Rican meal?  Those are just some of the programs offered through SCHOOL.

Kathy Livingston, Chairperson, encourages people to “Join and take advantage of these opportunities to explore topics that you actually WANT to learn about….there are no grades and no homework.  These are live classes, not pre-recorded lessons, and you can directly interact with the instructors.”

The current program book is hot off the press and can be found at local libraries or online at www.cobyschool.com.   Contact information for SCHOOL is 518-255-5463 and school@cobleskill.edu, or you can follow us on Facebook, www.facebook.com/cobyschool.
