SCHOHARIE COUNTY — Schoharie County is announcing the annual 30-day Open Enrollment Period for landowners interested in joining an existing agricultural district. The enrollment period will run from January 31 through February 28, 2026.
During this time, landowners may apply to have eligible agricultural land included in one of Schoharie County’s four existing agricultural districts. Applications must be submitted online no later than 11:59 p.m. on February 28, 2026. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
To be eligible, applications must include:
• Tax map parcel numbers
• Total acreage
• Municipality where the land is located
• Current and/or potential agricultural use
The Agricultural District Program is designed to encourage the continued use of farmland for agricultural production. Through a combination of incentives and protections, the program helps safeguard farmland and limit its conversion to non-agricultural uses.
New for 2026, all applications must be submitted online. Landowners who are unable to complete an online application may request a paper application by contacting the Schoharie County Office of Agricultural Development at 518-295-8785.
The online application is available at: https://www.schohariecounty
