SchoCo Pride Running First Board Elections

SCHOHARIE – SchoCo Pride Inc. hosted its first annual meeting for official board member nominations and opened its first election on Tuesday for five board members. They also announced several updates from committees and some upcoming plans and further solidified their mission statements.

SchoCo Pride is a non-profit group with the mission to strengthen and support the LGBTQ+ community of Schoharie county. They aim to provide resources, advocacy, and education as well as celebrate queer lives. SchoCo Pride is committed to uphold community, visibility, education, equity and justice, joy and celebration, and accountability. Up for election includes: external chair, internal chair, programs chair, treasurer, and secretary. Nominees for eligible positions were announced to the group; voting started 2/24/2026 and will run until 3/20/2026. Voters must have attended at least one SchoCo Pride meeting for their vote to be counted. The organization uses ranked choice voting, and offers in-person and online voting for accessibility. Each position has a 2 term limit. The election results will be announced at the next group meeting.

The sponsorship and fundraising committee shared a partnership for a fiscal sponsor with Kindness is Foundation Inc. They will hold money from grants for SchoCo Pride Inc until the 501C3 is finalized. 

The programs committee shared plans for PrideFest having informational booths, artists, performances, food vendors, and more which are all family friendly. An 18+ after party scheduled after the main family friendly PrideFest ends, held at a separate venue than PrideFest. The PrideFest location has been decided for June 20th, but is to be announced at a later date. The volunteer committee is planning to start recruiting volunteers in the future to help out with PrideFest. Forms to volunteer are still in progress.
