DELHI – The Section IV Class D boys basketball semifinals delivered one upset and one dominant performance Wednesday, March 4, as Schenevus advanced to the championship game while South Kortright/Andes saw its season come to an end.

The fourth-seeded Schenevus Dragons stunned the top-seeded Morris Mustangs 58-53 in a tightly contested semifinal, while the second-seeded Edmeston Panthers rolled past the No. 3 South Kortright/Andes Rams 69-37 to secure the other spot in the title game. Both matchups were played at SUNY Delhi’s Clark Field House.

Schenevus 58, Morris 53

Schenevus earned a return trip to the sectional championship with a determined performance against Morris, avenging a regular-season loss to the Mustangs in Tri-Valley League play earlier this year.

The game remained close throughout, with Morris holding a slim 23-22 lead at halftime. Schenevus began to shift momentum in the third quarter, outscoring the Mustangs to take a narrow 43-42 advantage entering the final period.

From there, the Dragons maintained their composure down the stretch, converting key possessions and making defensive stops to hold off Morris and secure the five-point victory.

Allen Osborne led the Schenevus offense with 18 points, while Sawyer Bridger added 15. Ethan Reed also finished in double figures with 13 points, helping power the Dragons’ balanced attack.

Morris was paced by Carter Sawyer, who scored a game-high 22 points. Ryan Murphy added 11 points for the Mustangs.

Despite the loss, Morris Central closed its season with an impressive 19-3 overall record.

Edmeston 69, South Kortright/Andes 37

In the night’s other semifinal, Edmeston delivered a commanding performance against SK/A, using a fast start to put the game out of reach early.

The Panthers opened with an 18-8 first-quarter run and extended their lead to 31-17 by halftime.

Edmeston pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Rams 26-12 to build a decisive advantage heading into the final period.

Gavin Zinger led the Panthers with 19 points. Landon Wust added 13 points, while Braymon Clark contributed 11 in a balanced scoring effort. Sire Champen chipped in 8 points.

SK/A was led by Garrett Dropp with 12 points, while J.B. Trimbell added 6.

The loss ended a strong season for the Rams, who finished with a 17-5 record.

With the victory, Edmeston improved to 19-3 and advanced to the Section IV Class D championship game against Schenevus, to be played on March 7 in Delhi.
