STAMFORD - Stamford-Jefferson (S-J) standout McKenna Hoyt claimed the Delaware League all time high scoring record Tuesday.

The previous record holder is 1999 Windham-Ashland-Jewett graduate Erica Knolhoff with 2,141 points. Knolhoff was at the match-up Tuesday and congratulated Hoyt following the game.

In S-J’s 61-23 victory over Hunter-Tannersville, Hoyt dropped 31 points to seal the record.

S-J Coach George Nebesnik said he is proud to be the coach of a player like Hoyt and he shared his thoughts regarding her accomplishment.

“It’s exciting,” he said. “She deserves it with the amount of work she puts in. It’s great to be a part of and I’m lucky I get to be along for the ride. She’s the best player around by far. She has taken her game to a whole new level this year.”

He added that Hoyt needed 30 points coming in to the game and said he was also relieved when he realized she had done it.

“I am happy for her,” said Nebesnik. “It’s exciting having such an incredibly talented player on our team.”
