ROXBURY - The Roxbury Town Board held a special meeting on Jan. 14 for a personnel matter. After an executive session, the board voted to place  Constable  Steven Williamson on paid administrative leave due to health concerns, according to Supervisor Allen Hinkley. His leave is pending the completion of a medical examination.

It was a mutual decision between Williamson and the board, said Hinkley.

Roughly five minutes into the executive session, Williamson, who has served the community for over 50 years, was invited to join the session.

Hinkley said the town has no plans to hire an interim  constable.

Williamson, who has been a police officer since signing on with the Delaware County Sheriff's Department as a deputy in 1970 has 55 years of service and he has been a constable in the town of Roxbury for 44 years. Over his tenure, he has been honored numerous times. He has been named a law enforcement officer of the year many times and is the longest serving mounted patrol.

Williamson, who had refused to comment previously, said he has passed the medical exam he was required to take. He said it is unknown what his status will be, with his administrative leave pending completion of the medical examination.
