ROXBURY - Roxbury Constable Steve Williamson was reinstated last Wednesday during a special meeting of the Town Board. The council first unanimously voted to accept Williamson’s retirement effective July 15th. Following an hour-long executive session, in which Williamson was invited to join, the council voted to reinstate him immediately.

The decision came after a three-month paid administrative leave. Williamson was placed on leave in January pending a medical examination, which he reports he passed promptly.

Nearly 20 people spoke, and over 50 attended the March council meeting in support of Williamson. The crowd was overwhelmingly grateful for Williamson’s 56 years of service to the community.

On Mar. 18th, Supervisor Allen Hinkley confirmed Williamson is back on the job. “His car has been in for repairs, and he is picking it up today,” he added.

The board is reviewing updates to the Constable Code of Conduct, said Hinkley, which are expected to be on the April 13th council meeting agenda for approval.

Williamson is being restricted to a 40-hour week and will no longer be on call 24/7 and his schedule will vary depending on the calls with revisions expected by the next town board meeting.
