MARGARETVILLE - After months of discussion, the Margaretville Village Board presented legislation regulating food trucks on April 21. A public hearing is set for Tuesday, May 19th at 4:45 p.m. directly preceding the regular monthly meeting. Mayor John Hubbell was absent. Trustee David Budin led the meeting in Hubbell’s absence.

The proposed legislation followed issues encountered in the summer of 2025. Board members believe the law will protect the health, safety, and welfare of the village and brick-and-mortar businesses, said Budin.

The proposed regulations apply to commercial food truck operations. Boy and Girl Scouts, as well as farmers' markets and fundraisers, are exempt.

Truck owners will be required to get a 60-day permit from the village, provide proof of insurance, and comply with sales tax laws. The law prohibits trucks from parking within 150 feet of a similar business or blocking driveways.

The proposed law is available to view at the village clerk's office at 773 Main Street.

Water Rates

In another discussion, trustees approved increased fees for frozen water meters. Current laws outline a first-time incident fee of $75 on weekdays and $100 on weekends. Second-time offenders are charged $175. The trustees added that the user must pay the meter replacement costs. Equipment costs could range from $200 to $400, they concluded. The resolution requires an annual letter to be sent to district users outlining current meter replacement fees. Fees are charged only if it is determined that the user did not take proper precautions to protect against freezing issues.
