MIDDLEBURGH - Long time Middleburgh elementary school principal Amy Irwin will be leaving in the middle of next month.
The district announced last week that Mrs. Irwin, who has been at MCS for seven years, has accepted a leadership position in the Shenendehowa Central school District. Her final day with MCS will be Friday, April 10.
"We are grateful for her leadership and commitment to Middleburgh and appreciate her support and helping ensure a smooth transition in the weeks ahead," officials said.
"During her time in Middleburgh, Mrs. Irwin has played an important role in supporting the academic growth and well-being of our elementary students and in building strong relationships with staff and families," officials said. "The district is grateful for her leadership and commitment to the Middleburgh community. We wish her continued success as she begins this next chapter in her career.”
The school board officially accepted her resignation, with regrets and best wishes, last Wednesday evening.
After Mrs. Irwin leaves, to ensure stability for students and staff during the transition, the district administrative team will oversee the elementary school's day-to-day operations through the remainder of the school year, officials said.
Superintendent Mark Place, high school, Principal Matthew Sloane, and Director of Personal Services Stella Ritter will work together to support staff students and families during this transition. The district will begin the search for a new elementary principal immediately with the goal of having the position filled no later than July 1. The hiring process will include opportunities for stakeholder input from teachers, students and families to ensure the district selects a leader who reflects the values and priorities of the Middleburgh community.
Officials said that they remain committed to providing a stable, supportive learning environment for all students throughout this transition.
