Nominations are being sought for 2026 Youth of the Year Award. The Greene County Children, Youth and Community Advisory Board is sponsoring the annual Greene County Youth Awards – Youth of the Year, Chairman’s Choice, and Director’s Choice. The purpose of the awards are to recognize the outstanding contributions and achievements of Greene County youth who have made outstanding contributions in serving his/her community through leadership, knowledge, skill and/or services. The dedication of these young people help make Greene County a better place for us all. If you know a young person in grade 9-12 who deserves this recognition, you can contact the Greene County Department of Human Services at 518-719-3555 to request a nomination form. From the nominations received, the youth will be evaluated by the selection committee to determine this year’s winners. Any inquiries for further information may also be directed to the department. Deadline for entries is March 31, 2026.
The Greene County Senior Nutrition Program menu for the week of March 16 – March 20 is as follows: Monday—Chicken Dijon, California mixed vegetables, mashed potatoes, tropical fruit; Tuesday—Corned beef and cabbage, boiled potatoes, carrots, chocolate cake with Andes Mints; Wednesday—Shepherd’s pie, broccoli, peanut butter cookies; Thursday—Turkey burger with peppers and onions, cauliflower Au Gratin, roasted red potatoes, pears; Friday—Tuna salad plate, garden salad, mixed greens, potato salad, fresh fruit. All persons 60 and older are invited to attend. Meals served at noon, suggested $4 donation for each meal. Congregate reservations are required by noon at least a day in advance. If you reserve a meal and are unable to attend, please call as soon as you can to cancel. Stop. Think Act: How to Recognize and Avoid Scams Targeting Older Adults. The New York State Division of consumer Protection in conjunction with the Greene County Department of Human Services will have presentations with valuable information and tips to help you recognize and avoid scams and fraud that specifically target older adults. Topics covered will be scam prevention tips to help protect your money and tips and resources to help avoid falling victim of identity theft. Each presentation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m at the following locations: March 18 at the Rivertown Senior Center, 39 Second Street, Athens; March 23 at Robert C. Antonelli Senior Center, 15 Academy Street, Catskill; April 4 at the Jewett Municipal Building, 3547 Route 23C, Jewett and April 6 at the Acra Community Center, 7360 Old Route 23, Acra.
