Saw my first sign of Spring the other day.  A very groggy ground hog.  Bet it was thinking what is all this cold, frozen, white stuff?

Susan and Carl Simpfenderfer had a fabulous time staying on the Joint Pearl Harbor-Hickam Base spending time with Susan’s nephew, U.S. Air Force Lt. Colonel Frederick G. Backus IV and family seeing all the sites on Oahu and the Big Island, Hawaii.  The weather was beautiful and the trip was just wonderful.

Potluck Dinner Church is rescheduled for Friday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. in the Windham-Hensonville UMC, Main Street, Windham.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

Happy birthday to Susan Constable on Thursday, Feb. 26.

Feb. 26 is also Rosalie Randolph Dymond’s birthday.

If you like to play Bingo, go over to the VFW Post 1548, 5565 NY 23, Windham on the first (March 5) and third (March 19) Thursday of every month.  Arrive at 6 p.m., games start at 6:30 p.m.  Food and beverage available for purchase from the Windham Community Center.

A Workshop Series Tools for Well Being and Connection is being held in West Kill/Lexington on Saturday, March 7 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.  The topic:  When the heart breaks and life still goes on.  Living with and beyond loss.  This is a free workshop.  Please call Helle Thorning at 518-255-8657 or email her at hthorningwine@gmail.com for more information and to register.  The next workshop will be April 11.

The Ashland Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting an Italian Pasta Dinner on Saturday, March 7 from 4:30 p.m,. to 7 p.m. at the Town of Ashland Firehouse.  You may dine in or takeout.  Adults are $13, children are $8 and under six years are free.  Menu includes choice of ravioli, lasagna or Penne pasta and meatballs, tossed salad, Italian bread, dessert, coffee, iced tea or water. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.

The next Fellowship Lunch will be Tuesday, March 10 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Kaaterskill UMC, Main Street, Tannersville.

A presentation on Become Bear Wise will be held at the Shandaken Town Hall on Monday, March 16 at 6:30 p.m. with speaker John Milo, DEC Wildlife Biologist, Division of Fish and Wildlife.  Learn how to live responsibly with black bears at home, business and when recreating outdoors.

There’s an on going puzzle swap at the Hunter Library, 7965 Main Street, Hunter, during library hours.  Bring a puzzle in good condition and exchange for another puzzle.

The Greene County Senior Nutrition Program menu for the week of March 2 – March 6 is as follows:  Monday—Chicken Divan, carrots, rice, fruit cocktail; Tuesday—Ravioli marinara with meatball, Italian mixed vegetables, tropical fruit; Wednesday—Macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, three-bean salad, fruited Jell-O; Thursday—Sloppy Joes, Brussels sprouts, white rice, fresh fruit; Friday—Lemon pepper fish, Sonoma vegetables, Au Gratin potatoes, Pineapple Delight.  All persons 60 and older are invited to attend.  Meals served at noon, suggested $4 donation for each meal.  Congregate reservations are required by noon at least a day in advance.  If you reserve a meal and are unable to attend, please call as soon as you can to cancel.  The number to call for the Senior Service Center at the Jewett Municipal Building, 3547 Route 23C, Jewett is 518-263-4392.

The deadline to nominate a Veteran for the Greene County Honor a Vet (May) is the third Tuesday in March (March 17).  Please contact the Greene County Veterans Service Agency for questions, profile form and instructions at veterans@greenecountyny.gov or call 518-943-3703. 

The Tannersville Food Pantry is open to all on Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  The pantry is located by the Tannersville Firehouse in the Tannersville Village Hall, One Park Place, Tannersville. If you would like to donate non-perishable food, donations may be brought Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tannersville Village Hall.  You may also send a donation to Kaaterskill UMC, POB 225, Tannersville, NY 12485.

There is an Essay Contest sponsored by Greene County American Legion.  America is celebrating it’s 250th birthday in 2026.  The essay should be 300 words or less:  “What Does Being an American Mean to Me.”  The essay must include a cover sheet with name, grade and school attending.  School will be notified of winner.  Mail postmarked by May 8, 2026 to GCAL Essay Contest, POB 21, Athens, NY 12015.  Winning prizes keep going up thanks to the generosity of individuals and companies involved. 

Daylight Saving Time is getting close – Sunday, March 8.  Turn your clocks ahead one hour before you to bed March 7.
