The weather cooperated for the Sunrise Service on Easter morning. Was cloudy and a bit chilly but not bad at all. Thirty were attending and after the service all enjoyed the Easter breakfast at the Lexington UMC.
There will be a Fish Fry Dinner fundraiser for the Hunter/Windham School Trap Team on Friday, April 10, 3 p.m. – 7 p.m., at the Hensonville Hose Company to support the team.
Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m., please join us at the Community Hall, 141 Spruceton Road, West Kill for the annual Town of Lexington Patriots’ Day sponsored by the Town of Lexington Town Historians Mary Palazzolo and Christine Dwon. Greene County Historian, Jonathan Palmer, will give a special presentation on “Sourcing Revolution.” Jonathan will discuss the broad array of primary source materials and traditional accounts that tell the story of the American Revolution in Greene County. From ambushes and skirmishes to political intrigue and test of loyalty, this talk will focus on noteworthy episodes and the remarkable surviving documents that preserve the evidence of these foundational events in our region’s history. There will be refreshments, a door prize and 50/50 raffle.
Following Jonathan Palmer’s presentation the West Kill/Lexington Community Improvement Association will be holding their annual meeting Saturday, April 11 at 3 p.m. in the Community Hall. There will be refreshments, a chance for everyone to look over the WKLCIA records and make suggestions for future activities. The President and Treasurer of the WKLCIA will give their reports and there will be voting for members of the Board of Directors.
Saturday, April 11 from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. is the Ashland Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary’s All You Can Eat Breakfast at the Ashland Firehouse, 12094 State Route 23, Ashland. Breakfast sandwich on hard roll with choice of bacon or sausage, American cheese, side of home fries. Eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, pancakes, french toast, toast, biscuits and gravy, local maple syrup, orange juice, apple juice, cranberry juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, milk, chocolate milk, eat in or takeout, free will offering. There will also be a Chinese Auction located in the firehouse--$5 a sheet and a 50/50 raffle. Ticket drawing starts at 3 p.m. The Department is hosting 138th Greene County Volunteer Firemen’s Association Convention on Sept. 9 – 12 and Ashland Fire Department’s 100th year. Fellowship Lunch will be held on Tuesday, April 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kaaterskill UMC, 5942 Main Street, Tannersville. Great food and fellowship. Meals are free and all are welcomed.
The Town of Lexington Fire/Rescue Company Ladies Auxiliary will meet on Tuesday, April 14 at 7 p.m. in the Firemen’s room.
You don’t want to miss the annual Maple Brunch, Sunday, April 19 from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. sponsored by the West Kill/Lexington Community Improvement Association at the Community Hall, 141 Spruceton Road, West Kill. There will be eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, potatoes, old fashioned grits, real maple syrup, savory dishes and much more. Adults are $20, children under 5 are free.
Mark your calendars for Friday, April 24, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lexington/West Kill UMC, Lexington for a Brooks’ Chicken BBQ. Dinners are $17 and will include a half chicken, baked potato, green beans, coleslaw, brownie. Chicken halves are $8. Takeouts but you are welcomed to use the dining hall to sit and eat with friends.

The Greene County Senior Nutrition Program menu for the week of April 13 – April 17 is as follows: Monday—Sausage and peppers sub, Monaco mixed vegetables, pasta salad, pineapple; Tuesday—Stuffed peppers, old fashioned mixed vegetables, white rice, pears; Wednesday—Sweet and sour shrimp, oriental mixed vegetables, white rice, vanilla mousse with whipped topping; Thursday—Meatloaf with gravy, baked potato, green beans, fresh fruit; Friday—Crab topped cod, Sonoma vegetable mix, rice pilaf, fresh fruit. All persons 60 and older are invited to attend. Meals served at noon, suggested $4 donation for each meal. Congregate reservations are required by noon at least a day in advance. I was very surprised to see a pair of swallows checking out a birdhouse in my back yard. Usually don’t see them until May.
