HOBART — Mount Utsayantha Regional Arts League (MURAL) will exhibit the paintings of Oneida Hammond and Kathleen Green from May 9 to June 2, 2026 at MURAL Art Gallery, 631 Main St., Hobart.

The Panamanian-born Oneida Hammond studied at the Academy of Art in Panama and with many well-known art teachers and artists in the United States. She has earned more than 200 awards, the first bestowed when she was ten years old. She has worked as a medical illustrator, graphic designer, and fine arts teacher.

While living in California she taught at West Valley College in San Jose, the Triton Museum of Santa Clara, and for seven years served as an artist in residence at the Yosemite National Park. Her work has been shown at many galleries, including the John Miller Gallery in Carmel and the Saratoga Gallery in Los Gatos. Her paintings are in the permanent collections of the Campbell Museum and the Historical Museum, both in San Jose.

Recent accomplishments in New York include a painting for the cover of the Margaretville, N. Y. phone book and the creation of a cancellation stamp for the post office in New Kingston. She has served as a juror at the Fenimore Museum. She has served as a juror at the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y. Of her artistic practice, Oneida Hammond says, “My favorite subjects are old buildings, landscapes, and flowers. My mediums are watercolors and drawings in pen and ink.”

From early on, the Jersey Shore stimulated Kathleen Green’s drawing and painting talents, and since her retirement to the Catskills in 2014, the mountains have replaced the ocean and the boardwalk. In elementary school she won third prize in the Boston School District Art show. In high school she was active in theater set design. She received a scholarship to the Delaware Art Institute. While working professionally in health care and counseling and raising her family, she continued to take art classes and never stopped practicing her skills. She says she “surveys her surroundings, sees the story, then captures the story in a sketch, a photo, and finally a finished drawing.” She focuses on realism in portraiture, landscapes, and still life. When she moved to the Catskills, she became active in the East Branch Delaware River Plein Air Painters group. Her paintings  can be found in New York, Florida, Michigan, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. She enjoys weekly drawing sessions with an international group of portrait artists.
