Kay E. Wilday, 79, of Ames, NY, passed away on February 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving

family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born April 14, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Elsie Young Scott. Kay was a

graduate of Canajoharie Central School, Class of 1964. On September 5, 1964, she married

Richard E. Wilday Sr., who predeceased her on April 19, 2013. Together they shared 48 years of

marriage rooted in faith, hard work, and devotion to family.

Kay devoted many years working alongside her husband and children on their dairy farm,

embracing the long days and hard work of farm life. She later worked at St. Mary’s Hospital until

her retirement on December 31, 2012. Her strong work ethic, warm heart, and caring nature left

a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike. Kay was a member of the Ames Sprout

Brook United Methodist Church.

Kay experienced profound loss with the recent passing of her daughter, Melanie Wilday, on

February 2, 2026. Though her heart carried that sorrow, her love for her family remained

steadfast.

She is survived by her loving children: Stephanie Wilday Leavitt (John) of Carlisle; Richard Wilday

Jr. (Tammy) of Colonie; and Amy Wilday Booth (Scott) of Sprakers. She was adored by her

grandchildren and great-granddaughter, who brought her immeasurable joy and pride. Her

greatest happiness came from time spent with her family, whose lives she touched with

unconditional love, strength, and quiet wisdom.

At Kay’s request, there will be no services.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Disabled American Veterans or St. Jude

Children’s Research Hospital, both of which she generously supported throughout the years.
