James Michael Wood (‘Woody’) died on January 23, 2026. He was the son of Raymond A. and Catherine R. Russett Wood.
Jim was born on January 3, 1954, in Poughkeepsie, New York the youngest of five children. The family moved to north Babylon Long Island New York in August after he was born. He had a great love of the waters on Long Island. He worked on a charter fishing boat, dug clams and eventually got his captain's license and a charter boat.
“Woody” moved to Stamford NY in 2004. He loved his gardens and enjoyed making sauerkraut with his nephew Raymond A. Wood III and his wife Mary Anne. It became a tradition of sorts. In the spring he would tap Maple trees and make syrup that he enjoyed giving away as small tokens of appreciation. He was an accomplished Carpenter and all-around handyman. He was well admired by and devoted to his friends and neighbors. Jim was happiest on his hilltop home enjoying the view in any season.
Jim was predeceased by his brother Raymond A. Wood Jr. and his sister Anne Sarinick. Judy Panenier and Kathy Lemyre and his surviving siblings.
He leaves behind his ten nephews Raymond A. Wood III and his wife Mary Anne, Tim Wood and wife Jessica, John Wood, John Sarinick, David Sarinick, Robert Montague and wife Rene, Michael Lemyre, Brian Lemyre, Michael Pankenier, David Pankenier, 3 nieces Bethann Scanlon, Kate Montague and Amy Pankenier, many great nieces and nephews and many close and wonderful friends in Stamford and Long Island New York.
Calling Hours will be held on Saturday January 31, 2026 from 1pm to 4pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York.
Burial will be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery Poughkeepsie, NY.
