Hope Ann Sohmer Rappleyea, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, age 100, died Saturday, March 7, 2026 at The Pines Nursing Home in Glens Falls, New York. She was born January 2, 1926 in Flushing, New York, the daughter of Paul Sohmer and Emily (Betke) Sohmer.
She graduated from Flushing High School and pursued training to become a laboratory technician. While on vacation with her family in the Catskills, she met the love of her life, Kenneth A. Rappleyea. They were married on April 6, 1946. They celebrated 67 years of marriage before Ken passed away in 2013.
Hope is survived by her daughter, Darlene Krick and her husband Allan; son, Kenneth P. Rappleyea and his wife Kelly; daughter, Sandra Rappleyea; and daughter, Cleita Harvey; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and by nieces and a nephew.
Hope and Ken raised their family and served their community in Stamford, NY where they were members of Stamford Methodist Church. In retirement they relocated to Port Charlotte, Florida in 1977. In 1988 they returned to New York State to live in Prattsville where they were members of the Reformed Church of Prattsville. They were very active in the Senior Citizens group meeting in Windham. They finally relocated in 2013 to Hudson Falls, NY to be close to family. Hope continued to be an active member of The Senior Center of the Kingsbury & Fort Edward Area until her health no longer made that possible.
Grave side service and Interment will be at the Prattsville Cemetery in the Spring. Those who wish to remember Hope in a special way may make gifts to in her memory to The Senior Center of The Kingsbury & Fort Edward Area, Inc., 78 Oak St., Hudson Falls, NY 12839
