CONESVILLE — Local history and environmental stewardship will take center stage this month as the Conesville Historical Society and town organizers announce a series of community events ranging from a Catskills historical presentation to Earth Day celebrations.
The festivities begin Wednesday, April 22, with Earth Day activities at the Conesville Town Field. Starting at 6:30 p.m., volunteers will gather for a community clean-up targeting local parks and streams. The evening will also feature art activities for all ages, followed by a donation-based yoga session at 7:30 p.m. Organizers are seeking donations of trash bags and refreshments, as well as volunteers to oversee craft stations.
Later that week, the Conesville Historical Society (CHS) will host its 2026 Annual Meeting on Sunday, April 26, at Gavin's Irish Country Inn in Cornwallville. The meeting, which begins at 1 p.m., will feature guest speaker Justin Wexler of Wild Hudson Valley.
Wexler, a historian and ethnoecologist, will present "Hidden History: Native People and the Catskill Mountains". The program explores how Native communities utilized the region for hunting for centuries and how secluded valleys became a refuge from Euro-American settlement by the 18th century.
The program is open to the general public, and CHS membership is not required to attend. The cost is $30 per person, which includes an appetizer, dinner buffet, dessert, and beverages. Interested attendees must RSVP to Lori at 607-588-6684 or email conesvillehistoricalsociety@gmail.com by April 17.
