COBLESKILL — The National Weather Service (NWS) Albany office has announced a free SKYWARN spring weather spotter training session for Schoharie County residents. The event is scheduled for Friday, May 8, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m..

The training will be held at the Schoharie County Office of Emergency Services (OES), located at 2783 State Route 7 in Cobleskill.

SKYWARN is a nationwide volunteer program composed of trained individuals who help keep their local communities safe. These volunteers provide the NWS with timely and accurate reports of significant and impactful weather events.

Participants in the upcoming session will learn about hazardous spring and summer weather events, local climatology, and specific weather spotting criteria. The curriculum also covers the proper procedures for reporting information to the NWS.

No prior weather knowledge or experience is required to attend. While the training is free, organizers encourage interested individuals to register in advance.

For more information or to register, residents can visit weather.gov/SKYWARN or contact the NWS Albany office via email at alb.stormreport@noaa.gov
