MARGARETVILLE – Margaretville Central School is proud to announce the start of the 2026 spring athletic season as student-athletes return to the courts and diamonds for another year of high-level competition and development. This season highlights a blend of veteran leadership in tennis and a strong focus on the growth of student-athletes across both the modified and varsity baseball programs.

Boys Modified Baseball: Building Student-Athletes

Coming off what Coach Schoonmaker describes as a "rebuild year," the Modified Baseball program is ready to turn confidence and skill-building into on-field progress. The focus this season extends beyond the diamond, emphasizing the holistic development of the roster.

"Our goal is to continue the growth and interest in baseball at Margaretville by expanding on what we worked on last year," says Coach Schoonmaker. "We are focused on developing our players into stellar STUDENT-athletes on and off the playing surface."

Boys Varsity Baseball: Collaboration and Opportunity

The Varsity Baseball season brings a unique dynamic this year through a strategic merger. Coach Binfield notes that while this is an "odd year," it serves as a valuable learning experience and a chance for MCS athletes to collaborate with peer programs.

In a show of local sportsmanship, South Kortright has welcomed two of Margaretville’s veteran baseball athletes into their program. "We are excited and thankful for the opportunity," Coach Binfield remarked, highlighting the chance for these athletes to compete alongside like-minded players and coaches.

Varsity Tennis: Leadership at the Top

Coach Owdienko enters the season with a solid foundation built around seniors David Silva and Max Siciarz. These two veteran players are expected to anchor the lineup as the number one and number two singles players, though the coaching staff notes that time will ultimately determine their specific seeding. "Solid players like David and Max at the top of the roster,  steady the lineup and allow our other players to match their skills with like league opponents," says Coach Owdienko.

Luke Bono and Vasilissa Hrazanek will help anchor the mid-lineup spots in singles and provide much-needed depth for the squad. Returning player Abigail Silva will be joined by a promising group of seventh-grade boys to fill out the roster and provide a bright outlook for the future of the program. Coach Owdienko predicts rapid improvement as the newcomers develop chemistry and the returning players regain their form. While Hunter is expected to be a strong competitor this year, the Blue Devils remain confident in their ability to be competitive and are hopeful of contending for a League Championship in girls’ or boys’ doubles, or boys’ singles.
