Man Arrested for Alleged Pistol Ownership

WALTON — Sheriff Craig DuMond announced the arrest of a Walton resident after being found in possession of two pistols.

On January 26th, 2026, Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Delaware Street in the Village of Walton. During the course of the investigation, a passenger in the vehicle was found to be in possession of two black powder pistols. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the passenger, who was identified as James Nash, age 45, of Sidney, NY, is a convicted felon and prohibited by law from possessing the pistols. 

Deputies arrested Nash on two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th degree, class A misdemeanors of the New York State Penal Law.  

Nash was issued appearance tickets directing him to appear in the Village of Walton Court at a later date to answer the charges.
