MIDDLEBURGH - Middleburgh village officials are hoping to pave up to four streets and an alleyway this year.
Village officials Monday night agreed to get quotes on paving the following streets: Scribner, Sheldon, and Baker avenues and a section of Railroad Avenue from Danforth to the "Y", and the Van Dyke alleyway next to the hardware store.
The village will have at least $63,000 in state CHIPs funds for 2026, Mayor Tim Knight said.
"We got $63,000 in CHIPs funding last year," he said. "Our final amount for this year will depend on budget negotiations between the Governor and Legislature, as the Governor wants to keep our share flat and the Legislature wants to increase it."
Last year, the village received quotes for the milling and paving of Scribner Avenue for $26,750, and paving Sheldon Avenue for $15,195.
Of course, paving highly depends on oil costs and the paving costs could rise for 2026.
Trustee Kevin Young said the village should get the quotes to pave the streets to keep up with the paving of Wells Avenue and Straub Lane last year.
The streets should be paved "sooner rather than later," he added.
Mayor Knight said the streets need to be repaved, "especially after the winter we just had. The roads took a beating."
Trustee Bob Tinker said the village should also look into getting new risers for manholes on Danforth and other streets.
The low manholes are dangerous and like "a big pothole" and could damage cars, he added.
