STAMFORD — The Roxbury Arts Group announces the screening of two exceptional films for the Local Lens Feature Film Showcase on Friday April 24, 2026 from 7-10:30p at the Headwater Arts Center in Stamford.  This event is free, donations gratefully accepted and there will be concessions available for purchase.  The films to be screened are “New Kingston” by Kevin Bewersdorf of New Kingston, NY and “The Reception” by John G. Young of Charlottesville, NY.   The filmmakers will be available for a Q&A session following the screenings. More information can be found at roxburyartsgroup.org or by calling 607-326-7908

"New Kingston" by Kevin Bewersdorf

In this documentary-style film, filmmaker and musician Kevin Bewersdorf documents the people, the seasons, and the homes of the unincorporated hamlet of New Kingston as he undertakes renovation work and interacts with the community. The film touches on the history of the town  and seasonal rhythms of small-town rural life, revealing the quiet beauty and resilient spirit of a place many pass through but few truly see. "New Kingston" is both a love letter and an honest portrait of rural Catskills life.

"The Reception" by John G. Young

Acclaimed director John G. Young brings his 2nd film, “The Reception” which was shot at the Roxbury Barn and Estate and premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2005. When a woman's daughter unexpectedly arrives with a new husband, an impromptu wedding reception unveils dark secrets and hidden betrayals in this  psychological drama set in the snowy New York countryside. The cold Delaware County landscapes deeply resonate with the story's emotional terrain and themes of separation and deception.  Please be advised that this film contains Strong Language, Sexual Situations and if rated would receive an R rating.

Young, who chairs the Film Conservatory at Purchase College has filmed multiple features throughout the region, including "Rivers Wash Over Me" (shot in Stamford, Jefferson, and Charlotteville). His deep connection to the area is evident in how the camera captures the subtle beauty and sometimes harsh realities of our rural landscape.

One truth that both filmmakers clearly understand is that place matters. Delaware County's topography and rugged season are integral to the stories that unfold here and the people who live them. Please join us for this wonderful double feature screening and Q&A at Headwaters Arts Center on Friday April 24, 2026 at 7p For more information please visit roxburyartsgroup.org call 607-326-7908 or email programs@roxburyartsgroup.org.
