ESPERANCE — The Landis Arboretum, located on Lape Road, is currently accepting entries for its annual Bluebird Lottery, a free community event designed to showcase birding opportunities throughout its trail network.

Running from April 1 through May 1, the lottery invites participants to use the Arboretum's Bluebird Trail map to select one nest box pair location they believe will produce fledged bluebirds by June 15. The event aims to provide a fun, educational experience while drawing attention to the local ecosystem.

All participants who correctly identify a successful nest box by the May 1 deadline will receive a free one-year membership to the Landis Arboretum. For those who are already paid members, a one-year extension will be added to their current subscription. These successful entries will also be entered into a drawing for several grand prizes.

The Grand Prize drawing, held in late June, includes a variety of items donated by volunteers and local businesses. Featured prizes include:

Five free subscriptions to The Mountain Eagle and The Schoharie News.

A Wildtier Herz metal bird feeding station valued at $70.

A Wildtier Herz bird feeder house valued at $30.

A $20 coupon for future Arboretum plant sales.

Free admission to an upcoming Arboretum event or field trip.

The lottery is sponsored by The Mountain Eagle. Individuals interested in participating can access the required entry form through the Arboretum’s digital postings. Only one submission is permitted per participant.
