Jefferson Man Arrested for DWI

HARPERSFIELD – Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrest of a Jefferson, man for driving while intoxicated following a one car motor vehicle accident.

On Friday, March 6th, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a one car motor vehicle accident with injuries on Moxham Road, near the intersection of Middlebrook Hill Road in the Town of Harpersfield. Upon arrival at the scene, Deputies observed that the vehicle had left the lane of travel, crossed through the intersection and struck a utility pole. Deputies made contact with the driver, who was identified as 67-year-old Richard Coogan of Jefferson. 

Upon completion of the investigation, Sheriff’s Deputies arrested and charged Coogan with Aggravated Unlicensed Operator in the 1st degree, a felony, Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor, both offenses of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law, as well as Unlicensed Operator, Moved from Lane Unsafely, Failure to Keep Right, Failure to Notify DMV of Address Change and Obstructed License Plate, all violations of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law. 

Upon completion of arrest processing, Coogan was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment Court.
