JEFFERSON - Members of the Jefferson Town Board approved a resolution to establish a zoning commission to oversee the town's Rural Land Development Law.
The zoning commission is a formality to have oversight over the town's law which establishes districts and is intended to ensure the town's agricultural heritage is maintained.
Conservation and use of the natural and man-related resources of the town is regulated through land use activity through review and approval of land development/site plans. The intent of the local law is to establish standards for subdivisions that will promote the orderly growth of the town of Jefferson that is in keeping with the aforementioned purpose of this law. It lists various rural districts that are considered zoning.
The town board appointed the town planning board to serve as the zoning commission during their regular meeting April 9. The planning board is considering updating the law.
Board members approved installing WiFi on the town green, at a cost of $1,300 for the year. There was a request last month to research the cost to provide WiFi on the green where cell phone coverage is sketchy.
In his report, Councilman Don VanValkenburgh reported the Heritage Day Committee wishes to thank the Jefferson Town Board for their support of Heritage Day. The fireworks are booked and the committee is looking into getting a bounce house. Brett’s Fried and BBQ Delights is confirmed. They are looking at cover designs for the book with a 250th theme and selling ads for the books and for business donated items for the raffle. The website is being updated. Debra Palmatier and Cindy Kohl are working on a mini grant of $2,000 that is available for 250th celebrations within the county. The committee is always seeking more volunteers.
Under privilege of the floor, Eric Weber asked permission to use the Green for several nights in the summer to do a free community movie night. The Board will check with the insurance company and for any other events scheduled. The Board also requested specific dates and tabled a decision until next month’s meeting pending approval from the insurance company.
The next regular Jefferson Town Board meeting will be held May 14.
