Dan’s commitment to service, including years of volunteer work and military service recognition, exemplifies the spirit of Rotary’s mission to promote goodwill and positive change worldwide.

In a heartfelt ceremony held recently, the Hobart Rotary Club proudly honored one of our community leaders, Dan Palm, by inducting him into the esteemed Paul Harris Society. This recognition, named after Rotary’s founder Paul Harris, celebrates individuals whose generosity and commitment have significantly advanced Rotary's mission of promoting world understanding, goodwill, and peace.

Rotarian Gary Williams opened the event by reflecting on a profound quote from Paul Harris himself: “Perhaps dreaming is not so bad if one dreams good things and makes them come true.” This sentiment perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Rotary, where dreams transform into impactful projects. With support from volunteers like Dan Palm, Rotary facilitates efforts to improve health, education, the environment, and alleviate poverty locally and worldwide.

Dan Palm’s contributions to the community extend far beyond his generosity. A veteran honored by the Harpersville Grange for his military service, Dan is also deeply involved in local efforts such as buildings and grounds oversight for Sacred Heart Church. His volunteer spirit shines brightly at Hobart Rotary events, where he has long assisted in cooking and meal preparation.

Beyond his local commitments, Dan is an avid traveler and explorer, having visited an astonishing 427 of the 433 national parks and remote locations like American Samoa and even Antarctica. He shares his enriching experiences through talks at Rotary meetings and community education programs, inspiring others with stories from his journeys.

The Paul Harris Society recognition, established in 1957, honors those who have made substantial contributions to Rotary and their communities. Dan now joins a distinguished group of Paul Harris Fellows, including notable figures like former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, astronaut James Lovell, and polio vaccine pioneer Jonas Salk. This honor not only acknowledges Dan’s generosity but also his lasting impact on individuals and families served by Rotary’s initiatives.

In a touching moment, Dan expressed his humility and gratitude, recalling how his father, also a Paul Harris Fellow, instilled in him a passion for Rotary service. He expressed pride in continuing his family’s Rotary legacy.

The Hobart Rotary Club celebrates Dan Palm’s dedication, generosity, and spirit of service. His recognition as a Paul Harris Society member not only honors his past contributions but also inspires others to dream big and make positive changes in our world.
