HOBART—The Hobart Community Alliance (HCA) continues its rapid momentum into the spring season, driven by a simple but powerful philosophy: "Community doesn't need defining; you just know it when you feel it". With a consistent turnout of over 20 dedicated residents at recent meetings, the group is tackling a diverse slate of projects aimed at revitalizing the village and fostering local connection.

"There really is strength in numbers," notes HCA Coordinator Julie Rockefeller. "Because so many people continue to attend our meetings, we are able to work on multiple projects at once. This is a time of resurgence and renewal in Hobart".

Meeting Summary: March 26, 2026

The March 26th meeting at the Hobart Community Center saw 25 attendees, including three new members, gather to advance several key village initiatives.

  • Village Infrastructure & Safety: The group moved forward with plans for enhanced lighting on Cornell Avenue and the installation of a fence for the playground/basketball court to prevent balls from rolling into the street. Additionally, members are circulating a petition for a radar speed sign on Route 10 to improve pedestrian safety.
  • Comprehensive Plan Update: A major focal point involved the 2004 Comprehensive Plan. The HCA is taking a proactive role in the Planning Board’s upcoming revision process, aiming for a transparent and collaborative vision for Hobart’s future.
  • Community Engagement: Successes include the "Family Movie Matinee" and ongoing updates from the Hobart Historical Society, including new historical building signs. The group also discussed results from a poll regarding Zoom access for future meetings to increase accessibility.
  • Grant Opportunities: Work groups continue to investigate Main Street Improvement grants and potential funding from the Hobart Community Foundation to support long-term revitalization goals.

  • April Village Board Meeting: Monday, April 6 at 6:30 PM.
  • Hobart Village Spring Clean Up: Sunday, April 19, 8:30–10:30 AM.
